How do I know if my QBO Essentials is using WebConnect or Express WebConnect?

I have a bank upgrade coming and they sent instructions based upon if I have "Web Connect" or "Express Web Connect." Both set of instructions are similar, but with a few differences. I know I have QBO Essentials, so I do not need to know what my subscription is, just what my subscription uses: WebConnect or Express WebConnect. Thank you

You’re most welcome, @SDM2.

Let me share some details about WebConnect and Express WebConnect.

Web Connect is a connection method in which the transaction download is initiated by visiting the financial institution's website and downloading the file containing the transaction information.

While the Express Web Connect is a one-way connection. Which communicates directly with your bank on your behalf.

You can check the available formats with your financial institution. You can choose WebConnect or Express WebConnect as long as QuickBooks Online supports the file type.

You can check this article for more information about the importing transactions with its file format: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

For any banking queries and troubleshooting process, you can refer to this link as a reference moving forward: Help articles. I’m sure you’ll find it very helpful.

How do I know if my QBO Essentials is using WebConnect or Express WebConnect?

Hi there, @SDM2.

You can choose either of the two connection options. If you've set-up Web-connect already as your connection in your bank online banking website and you want to to switch to Express Web-connect. You'll have to disconnect your bank in QuickBooks Online first to refresh the connection, once your done changing your connection type, reconnect again your bank in QuickBooks.

Here's how to disconnect your Bank in QBO:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, click on the bank you need to refresh for the connection.
  2. Select the Pencil or Edit icon, and choose Edit account info.
  3. Tick the Box that states, "Disconnect this account on save."
  4. Confirm by clicking the Save and close button.

I added screenshots too.

No worries about your data linked in your QuickBooks because you can always reconnect it, when adding the bank account again just click the + Link account button. Then, choose the account you've used in QuickBooks before you disconnect it. Here's some screenshots for additional information:

For future reference, you can check out this article to help you match and reconcile your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Hello MarsStephanieL:  Thanks for your quick response.  I don't know if I currently have "WebConnect" or "Express WebConnect."  I don't need to change anything and I do bank updates daily.  I'm just required to identify what I am currently using.

Thank you very much!
