HOW DO I RECORD A BANK TRANSFER WITHIN ACCOUNTS ON QUICKBOOKS ONLINE IF MY ACCOUNT WONT LINK

If the originating account is linked, but the receiving account is not (or vice versa), you should go into the Chart of Accounts and add the unlinked account as a bank account.  Then you record the transfer in the transaction screen the same as if it was a linked account.

If neither account is linked, then you need to add both accounts in the Chart of Accounts and then you can use the + button to add a bank transfer and record it there.  Alternatively, you can go into the bank register of one of the accounts and record it in the bank register.

If you need step-by-step instructions, I can do those as well.

HOW DO I RECORD A BANK TRANSFER WITHIN ACCOUNTS ON QUICKBOOKS ONLINE IF MY ACCOUNT WONT LINK

I'm glad to assist you in handling a transfer between your accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Kim.

What gjlkajgkle mentioned is correct. Moving funds between accounts is possible if both accounts are linked or added to the system. If one or both are not yet attached to QBO, we can manually enter them into your Chart of accounts (COA).

Kindly follow these steps to proceed:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Pick the Chart of accounts and click the New option.
  3. Enter the Account name and choose an Account type and a Detail type.
  4. Input an Opening balance for this account and modify the starting date on the As of section.
  5. You may also add a Description on the designated field.
  6. Once done, hit Save.

Following that, we can now record a transfer between both accounts. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the + New icon and Click Transfer.
  2. Pick the account where the amount comes from on the Transfer Funds From dropdown.
  3. Choose the account where the fund is going on the Transfer Funds To dropdown.
  4. Enter the transfer Amount. Then, input the transfer Date.
  5. Double-check the data, and once done, hit Save and close.

For additional reference regarding this process, you may check this link: Transfer funds between accounts.

Moreover, if you need to connect those accounts for online banking, we can link them directly from the COA page. Doing so will allow your transactions to be downloaded automatically into the system:

  1. Go to the Chart of accounts page.
  2. Look for the bank account and click the dropdown arrow under the Action column.
  3. Select Connect and follow the on-screen process to link the account.

Finally, if you need to transfer money between company files in the future, this is also achievable in QBO. You may click and review this article as your guide through this task: Transfer funds between companies in QuickBooks Online.

Should you have more queries regarding bank transfers between accounts in QuickBooks or other transactions, kindly reply to this thread. I'll be in all hands to provide appropriate assistance.
