How do I remove a bank account

By using the Search bar at the top of any page, you can find answers to most QB questions.

In doing so, I was able to find a page full of information on how to remove your bank account.

How do I remove a bank account

Removing a bank account in QuickBooks Online is easy, merscleaning. I'd be glad to walk you through the steps.

Beforehand, I'd like to know if you're referring to the bank account connected to online banking or added to the Chart of accounts.

If you want to disconnect an account connected to bank feeds, please note that you’ll no longer see transactions in the For review tab once you remove it. Make sure to categorize all the entries before disconnecting.

Follow these steps to remove an account from online banking:

  1. Go to Transactions and then select Bank transactions.
  2. Choose the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the pencil icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. If QuickBooks is downloading new transactions, you won't see this option. Wait a few minutes for the update to finish, and try again.
  6. Hit Save and Close.

If you want to remove a bank account from Chart accounts, there are a few things you need to consider before making it inactive:

  • You can't permanently delete an account, except for merging one account into another.
  • Inactivating an account doesn't remove its transactions.
  • You can't edit a transaction associated with an inactive account.
  • Before making a Balance sheet account inactive, correct the balance to zero. If the balance is not zero, QuickBooks Online makes an automatic adjustment entry to zero out the non-zero balance of the inactive account.

Further details about inactivating an account are shared in this article: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Once ready, perform these instructions to inactivate your account:

  1. From Transactions, select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to delete.
  3. Select the Action drop-down and select Make inactive.
  4. Hit Yes, make inactive to proceed.

Additionally, you can run several reports in QBO to give you a snapshot of your business and ensure your transactions are added to the correct accounts.
