Hello there, @MAbbey.
The ability to undo a reconciliation will based on the QuickBooks Online (QBO) you're using.
If you're using the QBO for business versions, you can only undo the reconciliation manually by editing the status of each reconciled transactions. Here's how:
- Navigate to the Settings ⚙ menu and choose Chart of accounts.
- Locate the account where the reconciled transactions are allocated and select View register.
- Once opened, you’ll see an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column of those reconciled transactions.
- Click the transaction to expand the view.
- Next, in the checkmark ✔ column, select the box with the “R” until the box is blank. This will undo the reconciliation for that entry.
- When finished, select Save and close the account register.
For more details, check this article: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.
However, if you have an accountant added in your QBO account (or if you're using QBO for Accountant version) you can ask them to undo the entire reconciliation of an account by batch. I'll guide you on how:
- Go to the Accounting menu and select the Reconcile tab.
- Next, click History by account.
- From there, locate the account where the transactions are allocated and date range from the drop down.
- Then, find the reconciliation on the list.
- Select View report to open the Reconciliation Report.
- Review any discrepancies and changes your client wants to make.
- When ready, select the dropdown in the Action column, and then click Undo.
- Choose Yes and then Undo to confirm.
