How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

Thanks for the info but I did use that converter and it didn't change anything, except the program didn't crash like it did with all the other 'fixes'. I also tried another converter with the same results.

Support won't help unless I upgrade to a subscription plan. I'm not doing that.

How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

Tried this and it almost worked. So i saved the qfx file as a text file, changed the <FID> tag from 1412 to 3000 (US Bank to Wells Fargo) and then saved the file as a .qbo file, opened it and it was going to import the transactions but I could not import them into the correct US Bank account. It wanted me to create a new account to import the transactions. I guess I could have done this and then changed the origin bank after the fact but dont want to muck up the books for other bookkeepers in the company by creating a new Wells Fargo account that doesnt actually exist. :( May try again another time.

Let me know what company you go with as I too would rather support a company that cared more about the user experience and satisfaction than their bottom line. Make the user happy = make more money.

The fact that Quickbooks sell products without a user guide and do not support new purchases is a joke.  Many may like the software, but not everyone wants to use the online version.  I also don't feel like I should have to read through hours of community support to get a simple one line answer.  I am returning this product and going with a company that cares to keep their customers!!!!

How did you save the file as qbo ???

I’m here to help save your .QBO file, @mr1099.

The .QBO file can only be saved after you create or convert it from its original format. Some users utilize apps for this process. Once it's ready, you can directly import it to QuickBooks.

You can visit our Desktop App Center to check which tool works best for your business. Just simply enter the keyword in the Search field then you can start select and learn the apps.

I’ve also added this reference to help manage transactions once available in the program: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you still need further assistance in saving the .QBO file, please let us know. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Keep safe!

QBO  files are required.  There are work arounds to make a .QFX file

"You will first need to convert the QFX file into .qbo file to import the transactions into the desktop version."

Ok, I'll bite:  How?  How does one convert the QFX file into a .qbo file?  What is the workaround?  You never say. You only say how to download a QBO file...but we already know how to do that.  What we don't know is how to convert a QBX file into a QBO file.

"Please know our developers are always working to make our product best for our customers."

3+ years later, and we STILL cannot use .qfx files with our desktop versions of QB.  Customer support is pathetic.

Didn't work for me.  I renamed my BoA .qfx files as .qbo files, and when I try to import the file into my desktop version of QB (2022 version), I get the error message "QuickBooks is unable to verify the Financial Institution information for this download."  Nothing gets imported.

At first blush, this seems to do the job.  Not sure how comfortable I am with it being an "open" service, so to speak.  But it may be the only solution, my only option, since QB sucks at providing value for their customers.  Like you said, if they wanted to, they could provide this functionality in their sleep.  But they don't want to, because QB has always sucked at customer service, IMO.

I may also try the Big Red Consulting program that you cited elsewhere, to see whether it works equally well but in a more protected (?) environment.

Anyway, thank you sincerely for this information.

I know that this hasn't been easy for you, dittoheadadt.

it's my priority to ensure that your bank transactions will be imported. Currently, QuickBooks Desktop doesn't support QFX files. Take note that renaming the file extension to ".qbo" won't convert data.

You'll have to use a third-party application to convert its file type. That said, you can visit our Desktop App Market to find the best tool that can convert your downloaded files. Once you're in, just enter a keyword in the search bar or go to the Categories section to filter the results.

To learn how to import your transactions and categorize them, you can browse these articles:

This is not a workaround.  QB Desktop supports QBO files; Quicken supports QFX files.  Saying to download to a "supported file type" simply avoids this issue.  We are not stupid so no more stupid messages.
