Do these features work on the desktop version too?
Do these instructions work on the desktop version of QB?
QuickBooks Desktop has a differerent approach and offers a unique method when transferring data from your flash drive to your computer. Allow me to guide you on how you can do this, Rym
There are several ways how to import information in the desktop version. You can do this with MS Excel, CSV file, and IIF. With Excel file you can import Customer, Vendor, Items and Chart of Accounts.
Also, QuickBooks opens a formatted Excel spreadsheet where you can enter your information. Once you save and close the file, you can review the result and view your data in QuickBooks. To import Customers, Vendors and Product you sell, you can do this with the Standard import option. Here's how:
For more detailed information on the process and to import additional customer, vendor or item data, refer to this article: Import or Export MS Excel Files.
Another method is using CSV files. You can create and modify CSV files with any text editor like Notepad. This approach requires installing the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit which includes instructions, sample files and reference guide that will explain the available fields available. For a comprehensive guide, see this article: Import and Export Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
Additionally, QuickBooks offers a variety of reports to help verify imported data. You can also customize the report to display the information as you prefer. I've added this article for your reference: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know if you have any other questions when moving your information to QuickBooks Desktop. We're always right here to help. Have a nice day.
Do you need to secure data in QBO account or QB Desktop file?
I need to move information from the QBD desktop file. Also, the old computers version of QBD is corrupt and I can not export excel files from that computer.
The QBD version on the old computer is corrupt and we can't open the software for exporting.
How can I get the data off the flash drive to move the old information to the new computer?
Which QB Desktop year version did you use last time to open the file? Have you tried QB ToolHub to fix the file? Do you have the backup file (*.qbb) to restore? Another option, you can ask a 3rd party service to check (and fix) your company file.
I can help you move your data to your flash drive, Rym.
When transferring your data from one device to another, it's best to create backup company file since it saves your data and supporting files. Afterward, ensure to install the QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer so we can restore your company file from there.
Here's how:
Additionally, restoring your information will depend on if there's .qbb file (backup) or .qbm file (portable) that are saved in your flash drive. If you want to include your excel files when restoring the backup, please know this is not possible since it only restores QBD data files. However, we can use the import feature in QBDT to import your excel files.
In case you'll encounter any error while restoring your back-up file, you can utilize this article: Get help with Error: Failed or Error: Restore Failed.
Please let me know if you have additional questions regarding moving your data from your old device, Rym. We'll be around to help you.
I was able to restore 01/24 - 10/24 from flash drive to Company file after I saved the current information. I need to now replace the 09/021 to 10/24 customer information to the updated file.
1. how can I do this automatically
2. After the whole year is updated, how do I export the information into a csv file?
Automatically replacing the customer information isn't currently an option, Rym. You'll need to import an updated CSV file to replace the customer information from 09/24 to 10/24. I'll gladly assist you in completing the process below.
Before doing so, please consider these important details:
The first step to import a customer list in the CSV format is to install the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit. After that, follow these detailed instructions to accomplish the said task:
Furthermore, once the data for the entire year is updated, you're set to export the information into a CSV file. For the step-by-step guide, refer to Export CSV files (Customers and Vendors) section in this article: Import/export CSV files.
Moreover, you can create and modify the Customer Contact List report to review the contact information and current balance of each customer.
