I have an opening balance discrepancy because I deleted a reconciled transaction. How can I fix this?

I've got the steps to help you correct your deleted transactions, gene.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), when we make changes to our reconciled accounts, we can correct this by recreating the deleted transaction and reviewing the audit log to use as a reference.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings, and select Audit log
  2. Look for the deleted transaction.
  3. Hit View

Then, the information will display on your screen, we can use that to re-create the transaction.

After recreating the deleted data, we changed its status back to reconciled to keep our books organized.

Perform the following:

  1. Go to the account register and find the transaction you recreated.
  2. Click on the blank field to mark it as reconciled - R
  3. Click Save and yet to Yes to confirm.

Additionally, visit this article to learn how to unreconcile an individual transaction from a completed reconciliation: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help process your deleted reconciled data in QBO. Have a good one!

What if the view button is gone? It was there a minute ago, I was about to go in, remake the missing one, unreconciled it, and then delete it (because it needed to be deleted) but now I can't view it anymore.

Hello there, @KristenDale. I'll share awareness of why the view button was missing when working with your QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Sometimes, the buttons may disappear due to the browser's cache. Your browser cache can become filled and cause issues when accessing your QBO account. I suggest running QBO in a private or incognito browsing mode. It helps your computer or device run optimally and regain some storage space to continue working seamlessly.

See these keyboard shortcuts to open a private window of supported browers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

For a detailed step-by-step process in clearing your cache, check out this article: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, you may visit this link for a guide on how to fix reconciled issues from the past in QBO: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to drop below for more questions about reconciliation in QBO. I'm always here to help you achieve your goals. Take care!
