I’m not able to link bank account to quick book

I'm here to help you successfully link your bank account to QuickBooks, rrbusiness2019-y.

Before we start, did you encounter error messages when linking your bank to QuickBooks? Any details would help me narrow down the resolution to resolve this. Also, I recommend sharing the name of your financial institution to further investigate the cause of this.

I've listed below some possible reason you encountered this issue:

  • The bank is performing system maintenance.
  • There are notifications from their website that need your attention.

To start, I suggest logging into your bank's website to review if there are alerts that need your attention.

  1. Login to your financial institution's website.
  2. Review your account page for messages, notifications, or alerts.
  3. Check your bank’s website for any announcements.

If there's none, please follow these steps to connect your account:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select the Banking tab.
  3. Choose Add account or Link account.
  4. Search for your bank. You can connect with most banks, even small credit unions.
  5. Click Continue
  6. Enter the username and password you use for your bank's website in the window.

Aside from that, you can also connect your account from your Chart of Accounts.

  1. Go to the Accounting menu and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to connect to.
  3. Select the View register drop-down arrow in the Action column.
  4. Select Connect bank.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.

For further guidance with the process, please see this article: Connect Bank and Credit Card Accounts to QuickBooks Online.

Once your bank transactions are successfully downloaded, you can start categorizing and matching them in QuickBooks Online. This ensures your books are accurate.

In case you'll need assistance in dealing with your transactions, don't hesitate to get back to this thread. We're always here to help you.

I’m not able to link bank account to quick book

Hello Charlene,

When I select my checking account on the Bank Acount linking process, it also selects the associated line of credit account, effectively blocking me from being able to link either account.  How do I get past this?

best,

Wake

Thanks for getting back to us with additional details, Wake. I'll share some tips on you can successfully connect your account.

Most banks attach the line of credit to checking accounts to protect you from overdrafts and from having transactions denied for non-sufficient funds. Sometimes this can cause connection issues in the program. That said, you may need to directly coordinate with your financial institution to check if they temporarily unlink the line of credit.

If you need to get your latest available transactions right now, you'll want to consider manually uploading them. Start signing in to your bank's website and then their instructions on how to download the file. As of now, our supported formats are CSV, QBO, and QFX.

Once done, refer to the steps below to be guided in importing them:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping and select Transactions.
  2. Choose Bank transactions, then click Upload transactions.
  3. Hit Drag and drop or select files, then find the file you downloaded from your bank.
  4. Click Continue and select the account you want to upload the transactions into.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields.
  6. Select the transactions you would like to import and tap Continue again.
  7. Choose Yes, then Done.

Additionally, I've attached an article that'll help you review your entries and accounts to make sure they match your monthly statements: Reconcile Workflow.
