I'm not an accountant and am forced to switch to Quickbooks online from Mac desktop 2016. I no longer have access to 2016 but I have back up files. Can I import these?

Welcome to the Community, mike-outpost-par.

Let me share some information and help you convert your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

These are few things you need to consider before moving your company file:

  • Before converting to QuickBooks Online, you need to download and install a free trial you're using a QuickBooks for Mac version older than 2016.
  • You need tp log in as Administrator for both QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file and your QuickBooks Online account.
  • QuickBooks Desktop will only convert your data within the first 60 days of your QuickBooks Online company start date.
  • Your Desktop file will replace your Online file and overwrite any existing information.
  • Don't convert your file if you've already turned on Payroll in QuickBooks Online.
  • There is some information that may not be imported when you move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Once you're ready, you may now import your desktop data to the online version.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop for the Mac company file.
  2. Go to the File menu.
  3. Choose Export to QuickBooks Online.
  4. Sign in to your existing QuickBooks Online account using your user ID and password.
  5. Click on OKgot it.

After that, you'll receive an email within 24 hours confirming that your data has been imported successfully.

You can check out this article just in case you encounter some issues converting your file: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Open a new blank QB Online account.

https:// quickbooks.grsm.io/US

then you may have 2 ways:

1. Install the trial license for QBD 2021 for Mac to open your file and migrate to QBO.

2. Purchase a 3rd party migration service.
