Hello there, Dorretha. Thanks for providing a screenshot. I'm here to provide clarification why you don't have the prompt to get the desktop app on your end.
As my colleague @ChristieAnn mentioned above downloading the QuickBooks Desktop app is only available on QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant versions.
If you have the versions mentioned, you'll need to manually download and install the QuickBooks Desktop for MacBook. Before downloading the new app, ensure to quit all QuickBooks apps and QuickView from running.
To download, here's how:
After that, launch the new QuickBooks app for Mac by following the steps below:
For more information, see this link: Install the QuickBooks Online for Mac app.
Additionally, check out our QuickBooks Help Articles for your future tasks. This page contains various topics with steps to manage your transactions, forms, taxes, and other related matters.
Please don't hesitate to touch base with me here if you need any additional assistance. I look forward to hearing from you again.

Thanks for the reply and resources SirielJeaB! I have Mac, is there a desktop version for it?
I appreciate you coming back to the thread and clarifying the device you're using, dbennem-yahoo-co. Let me share extra details on how downloading the desktop app works in QuickBooks. I'll also ensure you can achieve your goal by performing the alternative steps below.
Yes, there's a QuickBooks Online desktop app on Mac. Please know that downloading it via the Gear icon is only available on QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant versions. Also, it needs a Windows 64-bit processor in your software to have the feature.
If you're not a subscriber to one of the mentioned plans above, you can use this link to download the desktop app directly to your Mac. Then, you can open this article on how you can install the latest version of the app to stay up-to-date on new features: Download and use the QuickBooks Online desktop app.
Lastly, I'm adding this article to further guide you in effectively handling your business using QBO: Help guides for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments.
Feel free to add a comment below if you have other concerns about downloading the desktop app. I'm always right here to help you, dbennem-yahoo-co. Have a great day!
Unfortunately the link your provided was still for the Windows version, and the other "Download to use..." one was just the original instructions that didn't work for me/what initiated my post.
After a more targeted Google search though, I did finally find the Mac version downloadable from here (for others also looking): QuickBook Mac Desktop 2023
Thanks though, I do appreciate you responding and trying to help.
Thanks for the update, @Dorretha.
I appreciate your gesture of sharing where to locate the exact link for the QuickBooks Mac Desktop 2023 version. Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
Never hesitate to come back here if you have additional questions. Take care, and have a good one!
Hi Bryan, I'm finally getting around to downloading QB Desktop to use in parallel with my QB Online account, and its asking for my license number and product number. Where can I find these? I can't find the confirmation email I got when I registered for QB Online, and I'm not having any luck with the QB Online assistant or google search. Thanks!
Thanks for getting back to us, Dorretha.
I'll make sure you'll get the information you need to install the appropriate QuickBooks product and start managing your business.
Before we start, please note that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac and QuickBooks Online (QBO) desktop app for Mac are two different platforms.
The one you've downloaded and want to install that's asking for license and product numbers is the QBDT for Mac (2023 version). If you want to purchase this software, you'll have to contact our QuickBooks Sales team to get the license and product numbers.
On the other hand, if you want to download and install the QBO app for Mac, you can check out this direct page: Easier access to QuickBooks Online app for Mac.
After that, go to your QuickBooks Online Application folder and then drag the QBO file you downloaded. From there, you can now launch the QBO app. Please see this article and go to the If you can't install the latest update of the QuickBooks Online app for Mac section: Download and use the QuickBooks Online desktop app.
Also, you can add a QuickBooks Online shortcut or icon to your desktop. You'll want to look into this article on how to do this for all browsers, whether you use a Windows PC or Mac: Create a desktop shortcut for QuickBooks Online.
I'm ready to back you up if you need more help downloading and installing QuickBooks products. I'll keep the thread open so you can comment back.
Thanks Rea for the explaining the difference between the two. Now following the instructions in the link you sent me, I'm back to my original problem - this time I've attached screenshot for reference. The instructions say: Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account, then Go to Settings (the little gear), then select Get the desktop app.
I do NOT have that prompt in my Settings view, "Get the desktop app." Again, please see my screenshot for reference of what I see. Can you help me? Am I missing something?
Much appreciated,
D

Hi Abegail,
Ah got it, I overlooked that it's only available on those two versions, I'm using QB Simple Start. Hope to grow my biz to the point of needing the others some day, but just starting out and that not there yet. Thanks for the replies all, much appreciated.
