I want to remove a bank account from transactions completely

Hi there, pit315bbq.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I'll be providing details on how accounts in QuickBooks work. Then, to ensure you can remove them in QuickBooks so your accounts stay updated and accurate.

When you decide to remove bank accounts you don't need to use with your business, you can disconnect or make them inactive. With this, if the account is connected to QuickBooks, I recommend disconnecting it. Then, QuickBooks deletes entries that still need to be categorized in the For review tab. However, if transactions are older than 90 days, you're unable to download them into QuickBooks again.

Here’s how to disconnect an account from online banking:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping and select Transactions. Then, Banking.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the pencil icon and select Edit account info.
  4. Choose the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Click Save and Close.

If the account isn't linked to QBO, you'll have to make them inactive from your chart of accounts. Beforehand, I suggest deleting the entries associated with the two bank accounts to totally remove them from your QuickBooks Online.

Here's how to delete transactions:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to remove. Then, click View register in the Action column.
  3. Select the Filter icon and select the filters you want to apply.
  4. Click the Apply button to appear all the transactions that need to remove.
  5. Select each entry and choose the Delete button.
  6. Click Yes to confirm.

Once done, go back to the Chart of accounts page and you can now make the accounts inactive. Please perform the process below.

  1. Click the Gear ⚙ icon and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to delete/remove.
  3. Click the Action dropdown and select Make inactive.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view detailed steps on how you can upload your accounts to QBO from a spreadsheet: Import your chart of accounts to QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other follow-up questions about managing your accounts in QBO, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help, pit315bbq. Have a good one!
