QB desktop support says we have to set up 16 credit card accounts in order to import credit card activity directly into QB desktop. We are open to suggestions as 16 accounts to record credit card activity seems excessive and complex.

To have your bank transactions inside the program, you can set up an account and then download the transactions manually or utilize a third-party app. If you wish to proceed with setting up an account, we'll write down the steps to get you going.

If all those cards have different credit card numbers, then the credit card company will feed the details per card, similar to your statement, which is called out per card number. If this is the case, you do have to set up an account for each card. One way to do this is to set up each card as a sub-account under a master CC account. Then you can optionally hide the sub-account details from your balance sheet for cleaner reporting.
