In ONE credit card account, QB has UNcleared all transactions up to the last reconciliation.

I only enter payments manually. All transactions are bank downloads. They only appear in the register AFTER I have cleared and added them.

I tried to go back in and manually clear all 200+ transactions for the last statement period. Once that was done, I left the register and then went back into the register and all the manually cleared items were again marked UNclear.

When trying to reconcile this account, it only shows TWO of the hundreds of transactions, so I cannot clear them during a reconcile.

FTR, this is a Chase credit care account. We have another Chase credit card account that does not seem to be effected by this bug.

Ideas?

It's nice to have you here in the Community today, @ProSapien. I've got your back, and I'll help ensure you're able to successfully clear those transactions in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

One possible reason is that other users have uncleared those transactions you already cleared. To verify, you can use QBO's audit log feature to see changes made in your account. Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings and select Audit Log.
  2. Select Filter.
  3. Use the fields on the Filter panel to choose the appropriate User, Date, or Events filter to narrow the results.
  4. Select Apply.

You can also visit this article to learn more about the audit log feature: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online.

If it's not the case, you can check this article to learn how to fix accounts you've reconciled in the past: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

If the issue persists, consider performing the basic browser troubleshooting. You'll want to access your company file using incognito or a private window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. To open an incognito window in any supported browsers, you can use the following shortcut keys:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

Once you're in, try to clear those transactions again. If it works and you're able to successfully cleared those bank transactions, you can proceed to clear your browser's cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks Online with a clean slate.

Feel free to visit this article to learn more about how you can clear your browser: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

You can also consider using other compatible browser if the issue persist. Refer to this article to see the list of compatible browsers in QuickBooks Online: Other browsers.

Additionally, I've got you this article to help you reconcile an account in QBO: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks for your response.

Using your first suggestion, looking at the audit log, here is what looks suspicious:

On July 27th, when I detected the problem, I tried to fix it by manually clearing dozens of previously cleared (but inexplicably uncleared) transactions.

The transaction history shows my initial adding of the transaction in the cleared state and an "indirect edit" unclearing 5–10 minutes later. Then it shows my manual attempt to clear the transaction, followed a few minutes later by an "indirect edit" that unclears it.

How are these "indirect edits" ocurring and how do I stop them from happening.

To be clear, as NEW items are downloaded and I add them from to the register from the banking page (entering the register as CLEARED), the clear indication reverts to uncleared within a short time.

Thank you.

I appreciate the steps you've performed to fix those cleared transactions, ProSapien.

It could be that there are linked transactions causing the Indirect edits in QuickBooks Online. If yes, then that is working as designed in QBO.

However, if you've verified that none of the transactions are linked, and the issues persist, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Support. This way, an agent can investigate what's causing this problem.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate the Help (?) icon.
  2. Select either of these to start: Assistant or Search.
  3. Choose a way to connect with us: Start a chat or Get a callback.

I'd be happy to assist if you have other reconciliation or any issues in QBO.
