Is there an automated process to migrate from a business version (Essentials) to a non-profit version of Quickbooks?

It's good to have you here in the QuickBooks Community, @hugharmstrong-st. I'd be pleased to provide some insights about switching your business into a Nonprofit organization in QuickBooks Online.

For your QuickBooks Online Essential version, we can configure your account by selecting a Nonprofit Organization (Form 990) as your Tax form from your Accounts and settings. I'd be pleased to walk you through how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Choose Advanced.
  3. From the Company type, select Edit.
  4. Tick the Tax form ▼ dropdown, then choose Nonprofit organization (Form 990).
  5. Click Save, then Done.

Once done, ensure to sign out and sign back in to see the changes reflected throughout QuickBooks. When you do, your account should use terms commonly used by nonprofit organizations. For additional insights, please see this article: Configure an account for a nonprofit organization.

For future reference, feel free to check out this resource here that can guide you with Fund Accounting for non-profits as well as tracking funds in QBO: Fund Accounting for non-profits.

Please feel free to get in touch with me here for any additional questions about Nonprofit organizations and other QBO-related tasks. The Community always has your back. Have a great day!

@hugharmstrong-st

Do you need to convert data from QB Online to QB Desktop Premier Non-Profit edition, or else?

It's great to hear that you've been approved for a new QuickBooks, staceylwitte.

Yes, you can transfer your information to QuickBooks Online (one from TechSoup) to help manage your business. Let me help ensure the transition process goes smoothly for you.

You can request QBO Plus or Advanced via TechSoup and copy your company data from an existing subscription if you meet these requirements:

  • Your existing subscription level is QuickBooks Online Advanced (if not, you'll need to upgrade your subscription temporarily).
  • Follow the instructions in the TechSoup fulfillment email to set up your new donated subscription under the same QBO account as your existing subscription, rather than creating a new account.

In case you need further assistance moving your data, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me share the steps to view the available support options and contact information:

  1. Go to the Help icon in the upper right of your company to display the support window.
  2. In the Search tab, type a brief description of your concern in the field box and click the Contact Us button to view the support options.
  3. Select Chat to initiate a conversation and Callback to speak with an agent.

I have added a link with a checklist of tasks you'll have to complete to set up your company: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to open each link below to get more insights on tracking funds for non-profit organizations, along with steps to tailor your account to suit your business needs:

If you need further assistance completing a specific task in QBO or have questions about the migration process, drop a comment below. We’re here to help ensure you feel completely taken care of.
