linking a bank account

Hello there, @Amycao. I'm here to ensure that you'll get to connect to your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, can you share which bank were you trying to connect to in QBO? This information can help me identify if there is a current issue. In the meantime, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

To start with, let's refresh the page. If it still produces the same result, I suggest accessing your account through a different browser or in a private window to rule out possible webpage issues. Below are the shortcut keys to open incognito mode to supported browsers:

  • Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Online Support Experts. This way, they can review your account in a secure environment and take a closer look at the issue so they can provide you with a timely solution. They can also raise a ticket to our engineering team if needed.

For the time being, you can download an updated list of your bank's transactions. Then upload them manually into QuickBooks. Once done, you can then categorise them in the For Review tab.

Moreover, I'll also share this link where you can search for articles that can serve as your reference to guide you manage your bank account in QuickBooks: Help Articles for Banking in QuickBooks Online

I'm looking forward to having this resolved. Feel free to leave a reply if you require further assistance with connecting your bank account in QuickBooks. the Community team always has your back. Have a good one.

Hi there
We connected QB with US BANK on 2023/05/19.
and we started to use USB BANK on 2023/05/01
Now we got new issue.
I checked out that QB system automatically got a beginning balance data: -$0.17
we did pay out a  -$0.17
But When I check 【Banking】-【manage connections】,the balance data matches the bank balance of the connection day, which is $100
my question is why the beginning balance data of reconcile page is deffrent from the balance data of manage connections page

I'm here to ensure your beginning balances match, Amycao.

An incorrect opening balance is often the root cause of most beginning balance issues in QuickBooks Online. This is the account's starting point you set when you first created it in QuickBooks.

Correcting the opening balance should also fix your beginning balance issues. I'm here to help you out.

To get started, let's first review the opening balance entry in your QuickBooks Online. Here's how:

  1. If you entered an older transaction in your account, you'll want to reconcile it first. Then proceed with these steps.
  2. Go to the Accounting tab, then select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Choose the account that has a negative opening balance on the list.
  4. Click the View register.
  5. Look for the opening balance entry. It should have an "Opening Balance Equity" in the Account column.
  6. Let's take note of the date and balance. However, you can manually enter your opening balance if you've already started entering transactions.

Once done, compare the balance to your real-life account.

  1. Sign in to your bank's website and look for your bank statement.
  2. Set your account to check the balance for the day you set the opening balance date in your QuickBooks account.
  3. Match the balance on your bank statement to the opening balance you've entered in QuickBooks.

If the opening balance in QuickBooks doesn't match your bank records, I'd recommend editing it:

  1. Click the opening balance entry to expand the view.
  2. Edit the balance that matches your bank record under the Deposit column.
  3. Select Save. Then click Yes if QuickBooks is asking for confirmation.

Once done, I'd recommend reviewing your account register. To do so, follow Step 3 in this article: Fix Issues the First Time You Reconcile an Account in QuickBooks Online.

Once your opening balance is correct, you can start reconciling. Doing so ensures your QuickBooks account matches your bank and credit card statements.

Please keep us posted if you need additional help reconciling your account. It's our priority to ensure your books are accurate.

Hello there, Amycao.

I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community space. Allow me to chime in and clarify things about deleting accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Since you can only delete accounts with zero balances, I recommend using the Journal entry feature. This way, you can offset the amounts and clear the balance.

However, It would be best to contact an accountant for expert advice. They can guide you throughout the process to ensure your debit and credit the correct accounts.

We have a complete list of things you need to know before making an account inactive. Check out this link to learn more about it, as well as some details about the account types in QuickBooks: Learn about the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Keep us posted if you still have more questions about disabling accounts in the Online version. Take care, and have a great rest of the day. Keep safe always.
