Manually categorized AMEX credit card transactions are not consistently showing as "Cleared" in the register. Some do, some don’t—need clarification on this.

My issue doesn't seem to be covered in the existing list, so I’d like to explain it in more detail. We have an AMEX credit card account in our books that is directly connected to the bank feed, and the transaction syncing works fine. However, the issue I’m facing is with manually categorized transactions—some of them appear as "Cleared" in the register, while others do not, even though all were categorized manually. Could you please help clarify why this inconsistency occurs?

In QuickBooks Online, the Cleared status indicates that a transaction has been verified against the bank feed, Veeranna.

Manually categorized transactions are marked as "Cleared" when they match an imported bank feed entry. However, those that don’t match will remain blank or unclear as they haven’t been confirmed with the bank.

To resolve this, I recommend reviewing your bank feed for unmatched transactions and manually matching them with those in your account's register. If certain transactions don’t appear in the bank feed but you’re sure they’re accurate, you can manually mark them as "Cleared."

Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Locate the bank account in question, then click View Register.
  3. In the Reconcile (✓) column, click the blank field to mark the transactions as Cleared (C).
  4. Hit Save, then select Yes to confirm.
