Missing two months of transactions - can they be specifically requested from the bank?

HI, kayc5292. I have the information you need to enter the missing bank transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Yes, If the transactions are older than 90 days, you can get the missing transactions by logging in to your bank's website. From there, you just need to follow your bank's instructions on how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer. Make sure to check the date range before you download.

Once you have the file, you can follow the steps outlined in this article (Step 4: Manually upload the transactions): Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online. This will give you detailed steps on how to import transactions from accounts that are and aren't linked to online banking.

Otherwise, if the missing transactions are within 90 days, you can run a manual update to download them into QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping then Transactions.
  2. Select Bank transactions.
  3. Click on Update.

After that, use this link to guide you in reviewing and categorizing your bank transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other concerns or other banking questions. I'd be glad to help.

You can use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo) as a workaround.

Missing two months of transactions - can they be specifically requested from the bank?

Thank you - this worked!

The missing months were from when SunTrust transitioned to Truist.

You saved me from having to enter the transactions manually - huge time saver.

Appreciate  your help, Kayc

Missing two months of transactions - can they be specifically requested from the bank?

I am missing 2 months of transactions, all of which were already reconciled with the bank statements for those months. Last transaction showing up is Feb. 5th. All of Feb, March and April were there and in balance, then on May 15th I realized...they were gone, all the way back to Feb. 5th.  Help

I use Quickbooks 2024, not the online version.

Thank you for sharing this information with us, bcwine. Let's start by running a Reconciliation Discrepancy report to display any transactions that have changed since your last reconciliation.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Hover over Banking and select Reconciliation Discrepancy.
  3. Select the account you're reconciling and choose OK.
  4. Please review the report and check the last date to identify any changes or discrepancies.
  5. Once you confirm the reason for the changes, correct or edit the transaction if needed.

Is there any error message displayed when accessing these missing reconciled transactions? If so, let's perform the Verify/Rebuild troubleshooting to identify these errors and determine their causes so we can fix them promptly.

If there are no errors and the last displayed date on the report is before the date you did the reconciliation, you may have opened an incorrect or different company file. This could explain the missing two months of reconciled transactions. I recommend checking the latest backup copy of your company file from the online Intuit Data Protect backup (IDP) or a local backup saved on your computer's C drive.

For guidance on completing your year-end tasks and ensuring that your transactions are correct, refer to this article: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or need further assistance with reconciliation. We're here to help.

@bcwine

Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Any unresolved error messages?

Nothing changed with the checks, they were all listed in the register, I used the statements and cleared most of them, a few were outstanding.

Now there is no record of them in the register -they are just gone.

Feb 5th is the last date in the register, until I wrote a check on April 16th.

I do not want to manually re-enter those checks, from the statement, that would be a nightmare and lots of room for error.

I balanced February

I balanced March

I balanced April

I have all of those bank statements and reconciliations.

No error messages when I run the report.
