My business checking account balance is negative

I connected quick books to my bank and downloaded my checking account transactions. However it lists a negative balance in quick books.  In reviewing my transactions...all of the deposits are listed under "decrease" and any outgoing payments are listed under "increase".

Did I setup the account wrong? How do I fix this?

My business checking account balance is negative

I appreciate you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @keithpt.

Let's review why your account is showing a negative balance in QuickBooks. At this time, I can think of two possible reasons why this happens. First, the posting of the downloaded transactions or the account type in the chart of accounts is incorrect. Next is the added transaction is incorrectly categorized. That said, you need to review each of your transactions to identify the issue.

You can also check your register and compare it to your bank statement. There may be transactions that aren't cleared with the bank yet that is causing the negative balance. To access the register, select the correct account from the Use Register window under Banking.

Thank you for your reply. In reviewing this, I think the main issue is that the account type in the chart of accounts is incorrect. I say this because the number that is listed in quick books for my account balance is very similar to my account balance listed at the bank; except it has a "-" in front of it.

Do you know how I might correct this?

The account is setup as "payroll liabilities" in quick books. I think if anything it should be "payroll assets"....?
