Some automatic payments that were set up to be taken out of my paypal account for business expenses were paid using my personal bank account. I dont usually use paypal for business expenses but I do have it connected on here for the times that I do. So Paypal is set up to automatically use my personal bank account for the transactions and when I use my paypal for business I try and make sure I select my business account for these purchases. I sell on ebay and somehow they started using my paypal to purchase my shipping labels so the money automatically came out of my personal account.
My question is now it shows -$5 for the shipping label and plus $5 from my business account. How to I record or categorize the payments correctly?
Also I dont usually use paypal to receive payments but I have had a few sales there which was another reason I connected it. I have that all catergorized correctly but a friend of mine had sent me money and I didnt think about it messing up my transactions at the time in retrospect I see where I messed that up and will use cash app in the future to keep things seperate but how do I categorize that transaction.
Also previously I had just excluded the transaction where I transfered the money from the couple sales I did make on paypal to my bank account but I realise that is not right so how exactly do I record those
I can share some quick steps to take care of this and I appreciate you for seeing these details, @Middle_Class_Values.
When you process automatic payments using a PayPal Business account which funds are paid with your personal bank account, you can record this by creating a journal entry. This way, you can post the amounts in the debits and credits right directly to the specific account/category.
Here's how to create a journal entry:
Once you're ready, you can now create an expense or check and select your business bank account to use to reimburse the personal funds. Please follow these steps:
For additional tips about recording business expenses you made with personal funds in QuickBooks Online, you can follow this video article: Pay for business expenses using personal funds.
If you aren't sure where to debit or credit an account in a journal entry, I recommend reaching your accountant to keep your books accurate. You can also use this link to find an accounting expert if you don't have one.

Thanks for updating us on this, Middle_Class_Values.
I know it's important to ensure the payment is categorized accurately. With this, I'd suggest consulting an accountant. They'll be able to guide you in categorizing the payment you receive in your PayPal account and ensure your record is accurate. If you don't have one, we can help you look for an expert through our Find an Accountant tool.
