This is still a problem Jan 2025 -- when you create a rule you can specify "deposit" instead of "sales receipt" but it doesn't work -- it still defaults to "sales receipt" and you have to go manually into every entry and change it -- a time sink when you are processing dozens of Paypal transactions each week.  Should be an easy programming fix.
