QuickBooks Desktop - Multi-Currency - Cannot Add transaction to Multi-currency Bank account

Hello why can I not add transactions (deposits and withdrawals) directly to my GBP bank account?  My home currency is USD.

I am only able to do a Journal Entry.

Thank you

You have to enable the multi currency feature and setup a GBP bank account. Then you have to create new customer and vendor profiles with GBP currency.

QuickBooks Desktop - Multi-Currency - Cannot Add transaction to Multi-currency Bank account

I can share some information that can help you with adding transactions in your foreign currency account in QuickBooks Desktop, @dudeman93

In addition to what Fiat Lux - ASIA mentioned, after turning on the multicurrency feature and adding your GBP bank account, you should also set GBP vendors or customers. Once done, use that vendors/customers when creating transactions under that GBP account.

Here's how to add foreign currency or GBP vendors or customers:

  1. Go to the Customers (or Vendors) menu and then proceed to Customer Center (or Vendor Center).
  2. In the Customer Center (or Vendor Center), click the New Customer:job (or New Vendor) dropdown and choose New Customer (or New Vendor).
  3. Assign a Customer (or VendorName and Currency.
  4. Click on OK to save the transaction.

You can refer to the following article for more information about keeping track of transactions in foreign currency: Set up and use Multicurrency. This will also guide you with adding foreign-currency customers/vendors and accounts in QuickBooks Desktop.

In case you need to correct your bank balance, adding a journal entry will do the trick, Check this reference for more information on how to add, edit, or reverse a journal entry: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac.

Always feel free to leave your comments below if you have other questions about adding your multicurrency transactions in QBDT. I'm always here to help.

QuickBooks Desktop - Multi-Currency - Cannot Add transaction to Multi-currency Bank account

1. Thank you but didn't really answer my question.  In step 4 you said: "Click OK to save the transaction" - what transaction?  The instructions in those steps only discuss creating a new customer.
2. Also I just want to enter a transaction in GBP bank account - for example bank fees.  How come I can't just simply enter a transaction in foreign currency bank account?

thank you.

QuickBooks Desktop - Multi-Currency - Cannot Add transaction to Multi-currency Bank account

I'm chiming in to share some details about this, @dudeman93.

You can manually add a deposit directly to your GBP bank account. However, If the account's currency is GBP, the deposit or withdrawal should also use GBP currency so you can enter them into your foreign bank account. To do that, you need to create a vendor or payee who uses the same currency as your bank account. You then create a deposit to enter the transaction into that account. Here's how:

  1. On the Homepage, go to Banking tab and then select Make Deposit.
  2. Select the account where you want the deposit to go.
  3. Fill in the necessary fields.
  4. Add the payee that uses the same currency as your bank account.
  5. Utilize the memo as needed.
  6. When you're done, select Save & Close.
