Hi, jforbisjshs.
I'm here to provide you with some additional information regarding your bank transactions.
The bank rules you've set up affect only future downloaded transactions. However, if you make changes to a rule, such as adding a tag, it will be applied to all transactions by the rule, including those in the past. If you don't want the rules to affect the past transactions, edit the rule accordingly to revert the changes made.
To batch-categorize last year's transactions for a specific vendor into a tag group, you can follow these steps:
- In your QBO account, go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
- Select the blue tile to select the bank account where your vendor transactions are.
- Put a checkmark on the boxes to select the vendor transactions. To group all transactions from a specific vendor:
a. Click the small gear icon next to the print and export button.
b. Toggle on Turn on grouping. This will group your transactions per Payee (or vendor).
- Select Edit.
- Then enter the necessary fields. Then, click on Apply and accept when done.
I've also included this resource to help you reconcile your account after categorizing: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
If there's anything else I can help you with batch-categorizing transactions or about bank rules, let me know in the comments. I'll be here to help.
