QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) are different platforms. Fiat Lux - ASIA is right. In additional to that, you may consider using QBO. Doing this let you migrate your data directly from QBDT to QBO.
If you won't consider using QBO, starting from scratch is necessary because importing other information from QuickBooks Desktop isn't possible due to features differences.
Still, you can export bank transactions from your QuickBooks Desktop company and import them into QBSE using CSV file. Here's how you can import your bank transactions:
