For a Kickstarter campaign payout to my bank, how should I add this transaction to Quickbooks? (payment received, new sale, etc).

My business had a successful kickstarter campaign and the money just entered our business bank account. It now shows in the "For Review" screen in banking. I'm unsure the best approach to add this to Quickbooks as I have nothing to match it to. Should I make Kickstarter a customer and create an invoice? Should I do "receive payment" and deal with the credit? Should I just hit "add" in the for review panel. Other? Thanks in advance.

To answer your questions, yes, you can add Kickstarter as a customer, create an invoice and match the payment received from the For Review tab.

 

Here's how to create an invoice:

 

  1. Click + New in the left panel and select Invoice.

  2. Select Kickstarter from the Customer ▼ drop-down.
  3. Review the Invoice date. If you need to, change the due date in the Terms ▼ drop-down.
  4. From the Product/Service column, select a product or service. You can also select +Add new to create a new product or service right from the invoice.
  5. Enter a quantity, rate, and change amount if needed, and select the Tax checkbox if you need to charge sales tax.
  6. Hit Save and close or Save and send.

 

Once the invoice is saved, you can match the payout or payment from the For Review tab.
