How can I change the GL code for an existing bank feed?

We have several banks that we are doing bank feeds with and having no problems with them. However, when we just connected with Illinois Bank, when I run the bank feed, it is bringing it in to "Checking account XXXX Illinois Bank" instead of "Illinois Bank XXXX" (which is a totally different account). Apparently, the GL account was set up to the incorrect one and we did not know it because we just set it up for bank feeds yesterday. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to change the GL account for a bank feed that is already set up? I think I have to disable the current feed (not sure how to do that) and then change something somewhere that assigns the correct GL and then turn it back on. If someone can help with more details, I sure would be grateful.

How can I change the GL code for an existing bank feed?

Let me guide you on how you change the GL accounts and codes for existing bank feeds, YankeeGirlz.

General Ledger (GL) codes make up your chart of accounts and are used to easily track where your money is going to and coming from. In QuickBooks, you can only enter up to 7 characters for your GL codes.

To do so, you'll have to enable your account numbers if you haven't yet. Here's how:

  1. Go to Edit.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose Accounting.
  4. Click Company Preferences.
  5. Check the option to Use account numbers.
  6. Tap OK.

Then, change your account numbers by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Lists.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find and click an account you wanted to modify the account numbers.
  4. Click Account.
  5. Select Edit Account.
  6. Enter your modified account numbers in the Number field.
  7. Click Save & Close.

However, if you want to update an account type, you can follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Go to the Lists menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Right-click on the account that you want to edit.
  4. Tap Edit Account.
  5. Update the account details.
  6. Press Save & Close.

In addition, QuickBooks offers a variety of reports that provides your business needs. Learn how it displays reports based on a set of instructions. For more details, check out this handy article for more information: Understand Reports
