Let me guide you on how you change the GL accounts and codes for existing bank feeds, YankeeGirlz.
General Ledger (GL) codes make up your chart of accounts and are used to easily track where your money is going to and coming from. In QuickBooks, you can only enter up to 7 characters for your GL codes.
To do so, you'll have to enable your account numbers if you haven't yet. Here's how:
- Go to Edit.
- Select Preferences.
- Choose Accounting.
- Click Company Preferences.
- Check the option to Use account numbers.
- Tap OK.
Then, change your account numbers by following the steps below:
- Go to Lists.
- Select Chart of Accounts.
- Find and click an account you wanted to modify the account numbers.
- Click Account.
- Select Edit Account.
- Enter your modified account numbers in the Number field.
- Click Save & Close.
However, if you want to update an account type, you can follow the steps outlined below:
- Go to the Lists menu.
- Select Chart of Accounts.
- Right-click on the account that you want to edit.
- Tap Edit Account.
- Update the account details.
- Press Save & Close.
