QBO keeps downloading the same credit card refund from Chase over and over and over...

I have a partial refund from Chase for a business credit card, and the same transaction keeps being downloaded into QBO. Don't know how to make it stop. I entered a credit card refund and it found a "match", but then proceeded to keep downloading the transaction. Very frustrating...

I appreciate your effort in matching the transactions, @John. I'll help you fix the duplicate transactions that keep coming back to your bank feeds.

To check if there are any reported issues related to this, may I know your financial institution? It will help us verify if there are any matters in question specific to your bank.

QuickBooks is dependent on the entries released from your bank. Since the credit card refund transaction was repeatedly downloaded, we'll need to remove the duplicates. Let's check your audit log first to determine if there are any changes or movements in your transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Audit Log.
  2. Filter the transactions by choosing the appropriate UserDate Changed, or Events to narrow down results.
  3. Press Apply.

Once done, we can exclude the transactions again and delete them afterward. This removes them from your books permanently. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu from the left navigation panel.
  2. Select the Banking tab, and then choose the account you want to use.
  3. Click the For Review tab.
  4. Mark the checkboxes next to the transactions you want to exclude.
  5. Press the Exclude option to move them to the Excluded section.
  6. From there, place a check in the box for the transaction you'd like to permanently delete.
  7. Click the Delete tab.

See this article to learn more about the process: Exclude a bank transaction you downloaded into QuickBooks Online.

I have been excluding these erroneous downloaded transactions then deleting then, but clicking 'Update' just starts bringing them back in again...

Also, I don't see 'Filter' when I go under Audit Log.

I appreciate your prompt response, userjohn10. I'll share additional details to ensure this gets fixed and route you to the proper support.

To help you narrow down the results, we can filter the transaction on the User, Date Changed, and Events dropdowns under the Audit log. I've added a screenshot for reference.

Also, to be guided further in reviewing your downloaded transactions, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can pull up your account in a secure environment, perform further research, and create an investigation if necessary.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In your QBO account, click Help.
  2. Click the Search tab, and select Contact Us.
  3. Enter the error message in the description box, and select Continue.
  4. Start a chat with a support expert.

Moreover, you can check out this reference to guide you in reviewing and categorizing them into the correct accounts: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Yeah, I tried contacting support and starting a chat with a support "expert" and the experience was very poor... the person kept not understanding the issue and asking questions that illustrated they had no idea what was going on.... I gave up but will try again if that's the only way...
