re-stablish downloadeded (bank feeds) deposit

I inadvertently deleted a $7k bank feed deposit and would like to re-establish it in order to match the different invoice payments, credits, etc. the $7k deposit funds.

Welcome to the Community space, @jpatriarca. You can download the same bank transaction from your bank feed or manually enter them in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to match them to an invoice. I'll guide you every step of the way to accomplish this.

Before anything else, please know that once you select a transaction and Ignore it in your bank feeds, the system will permanently delete it, and there's no option to retrieve it. To get around this, you can re-download the same transaction from the bank and manually match it to your invoices, credits in QBDT. These are the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. Go to Banking.
  3. Select Bank Feeds then select Banking Center.
  4. Find your bank and select Download Transactions. This opens a browser window to your bank's website.
  5. Sign in to your bank's website to download the Web Connect file.

I've included an image below to give you visual reference.

I also recommend checking this page to see other ways to download your bank transactions: Download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once you've got the deposit transaction, proceed to match them to your invoices. Please see this article for more information: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Another way to address this is to receive all invoice payments manually and then put them into the Undeposited Funds. This way, when you're ready to deposit them to a specific bank account, you transfer them all at once. For guidelines, please see this page: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, check out this article to help you reconcile a bank account in QBDT: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm always ready to assist you in handling bank transactions in QBDT. I also encourage you to utilize the comment section below so I can respond as soon as possible. Stay safe

Kurt,

I've tried Bank Feeds several times for the account in question, the transaction does not download.

I've disabled Bank Feeds for the account in question and tried to manually download and import the downloaded file, the transaction does not download.

Bank is Wells Fargo, I've been successfully downloading to the account in question for years. I've a 2nd business account at WF, haven't had any problems.

re-stablish downloadeded (bank feeds) deposit

Good evening, @jpatriarca

Thanks for coming back and giving additional information to your issue.

Since it's not appearing, I recommend resorting your lists in QBDT to help fix the problem. Here's how:

  1. From the Lists menu, select the list you need to re-sort.
  2. Press the Include Inactive checkbox. If it's grayed out, there are no inactive names.
  3. Go to the View menu, then tap Re-sort Lists.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close and reopen your company file.

Reach back out and let us know if this works. I'll be waiting for your response!

Didn't work. I tried one list....which one are you referring to?

I appreciate your update, jpatriarca! It should be your Chart of Accounts list that needs to be re-sorted. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to fix this so you can match your downloaded bank feed deposit transactions to your invoice payments.

I recommend using the Rebuild Data tool, as it will help you re-sort your lists while also checking for any potential data issues in your company file. This way, you can ensure everything is in order! Follow the steps below to perform this process:

  1. Go to File, Utilities, and then select Rebuild Data.
  2. On the QuickBooks Information window, click OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup. 80.PNG
  3. Choose where you want to save your backup, then OK. Don’t replace another backup file. Enter a new name in File name and select Save.
  4. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.
  5. Go back to the File menu, hit Utilities then pick Verify Data to check for additional damage.
  6. If the Verify Data finds more damage, you’ll need to fix it manually. Search for the error(s) in the qbwin.log on the QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix it.
  7. If your error can't be found, you can restore a recent backup by visiting the File menu and selecting Open or Restore Company. Note: Don’t replace your existing company file. You’ll need to enter information into your company file again since the backup was created.

You can find more insight about the task above in this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, I suggest reconciling your accounts regularly (every month). This practice will help you maintain consistency with your monthly statements and ensure that your financial records stay accurate.

I am committed to providing you with tailored solutions for your banking needs as you navigate your transactions in QuickBooks. Your concerns are important to us, jpatriarca, so please feel free to reach out anytime you need assistance. Have a wonderful day ahead!

Rea: Didn't work. 2 minor problems found and repaired w/Rebuild Data.

I spent 53 minutes on the phone yesterday w/QBDT support to no avail. Their suggestion was to enter transaction manually after I showed them a previous transaction. All their suggestions I'd already tried. Basically a waste of time.  Manual entry of a deposit does not allow one to allocate individual invoice payments...which is why I wanted to RE-ESTABLISH DOWNLOADED (BANK FEEDS) DEPOSIT!!!!!!!!!!!

(it did show up in the Audit Trail as a deleted item!?!?!?}
