Why doesn't my bank balance and quickboooks balance match?

I balanced my quickbooks balance and bank balance to match. When I downloaded the new bank statement, the quickbooks balance reverted to the original incorrect balance. How do I fix that?

Why doesn't my bank balance and quickboooks balance match?

Hi @LB8072,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can help you fix the balance in QuickBooks Online.

The QuickBooks balance is the total amount of all bank transactions you've matched or added to the system. Since the issue happened after the download, I recommend reviewing your bank register.

Several factors may cause the balances to vary between QuickBooks and your bank balance. Here are some of the reasons why they don't match:

  • Outstanding transactions
  • New transactions for a connected account
  • Duplicate transactions
  • Edited or deleted transactions
  • Credit card (liability) account

To fix it, visit your bank register in the chart of accounts and compare them with your statement. You can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Chart of accounts under Your Company.
  3. Choose the account.
  4. Press View register

In case you need to fix the beginning balance, you can follow the detailed instructions in this link: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

You can also undo previously added bank data from Banking to avoid duplicates. You can follow these steps:

  1. On the left navigation bar, Banking.
  2. Select the account.
  3. Go to the Categorized tab.
  4. Choose the transactions.
  5. Hit Undo1.JPG

Additionally, I recommend visiting the following article you can use to exclude added bank transactions in QuickBooks: Exclude a bank transaction you downloaded into QuickBooks Online.

Fill me in if you have more questions about resolving your bank balance in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Take care.
