sub savings accounts

My husband and I have 2 savings accounts. Short term and Long term.  In each of these accounts we have a designated amount saved for specific things. ex. vacation, car, home improvement, insurance.  I have them set up as sub accounts to the parent account in quickbooks.  I keep track in a spreadsheet how much we have in each account.  i'm wondering if there is a way to import it into quickbooks?  Or if there is a way to set it up that a certain percentage of each deposit into the account goes into each sub account?

No there is no way to set up a deposit to portion it out across accounts or sub accounts

Well, if the deposit the exact same amount each time, then on the make deposit screen you could portion it out and click the make recurring button.

Are you using QB for personal finance? Personal finance should never be mixed into a business accounting file.

thanks

my personal files are kept separate from my business files. but I prefer QB over other accounting programs so I track all my personal finances in it.

Like this;

Savings parent <== This needs to show as 0 on reporting and is used only to reconcile.

Savings subaccounts for various things.

When you Make a deposit to savings, it is top left Savings (parent). The Detail lines are like this:

first line is the reason for the deposit, such as From Checking or From whatever. Typically, this is the Deposit to Savings. Now we need to make it end at 0.

Each line is Negative, to the various subaccounts.

Bottom right needs to be Net Deposit of 0. If not, you made a mistake in amounts or overlooked making the rest negative or forgot something.

This way, the Actual Deposit to Savings = 0, every time. You never put a value into the Parent level.
