The IRS rejected my 1099 submissions because the address doesn't exactly match their records (includes 4 digits after ZIP) - QuickBooks is autocompleting the ZIP code?

No matter how many times I try to edit, QB automatically is adding the additional four digits to my ZIP code, which is causing it to not match the IRS records exactly.

The IRS rejected my 1099 submissions because the address doesn't exactly match their records (includes 4 digits after ZIP) - QuickBooks is autocompleting the ZIP code?

Welcome to the Community!

I understand the importance of submitting 1099s to stay compliant and avoid related issues. I'll ensure you get the information you need to fix rejected forms.

To get this resolve, you must resubmit your 1099s with the updated information.

Since the 1099 form was rejected due to the contractor's address doesn't match IRS records. The most common reason for this is an incomplete ZIP code, wrong state, or a non-US address.

Let's begin with voiding the 1099 forms that have been rejected by selecting Void forms from the 1099 filings tab. Next, you'll want to update the address to the correct one in the contractor profile and on the 1099 form. Since you've mentioned that the system is autocompleting the ZIP code, which makes the ZIP code incorrect, you'll want to turn off auto-recall to pre-fill transactions. See the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. From the Advanced tab, go to the Automation section and select the pencil icon.
  3. Turn on Pre-fill forms with a previously entered content switch to enable auto-recall. Turn off the switch to deactivate the auto-recall feature.
  4. Then, hit Save and Done to record your changes.

Please refer to this article for details: Use auto-recall to pre-fill transactions in QuickBooks Online.

After updating the form, you can proceed to Step 4 in this article to resubmit your forms: Fix rejected 1099 forms.

I'm leaving these articles if you want to print 1099s and access previously filed forms in QuickBooks:

I've done all of that, and it's now been rejected 5 times.

I've tried all of that and it's now been rejected 5x. I've spent over an hour on the phone with customer support and they just regurgitate the info you've given me (again).
