Void/delete check

A check was written out for the wrong dollar amount to one of my vendors, $20 more than the invoice amount due.  The vendor gave me the check back and I wrote another check out for the correct dollar amount.  So what is the best way to deal with it QBO?  Void or delete?  First time dealing with this.  TIA

Void/delete check

It would be best to void the incorrect check, ametz1201.

When a transaction is voided, the record remains in QuickBooks without impacting your financial records. Therefore, if you wish to monitor voided transactions or determine the reasons behind them, you can still access and review them in the system.

To void a check, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Expenses, then locate the check in question.
  2. Click the dropdown button in the Action column.
  3. Select Void.

You can also run reports to track your check balances or the financial status of your business.

Kindly return to this post if there's anything else you need to know with your transactions. I'll be sure to get back to you. Keep safe.

Void/delete check

Our accountant has us just void the check.  I make notes in that voided check, as to why it was voided. It helps keep better records when you just void. That way you don't have to remember or worry about where that check is or why it isn't showing in any of your records.
