While reconciling I hit the yes button accidentally; it overwrites amounts for certain vendors. NOW my reconciling is OFF! I cannot reverse it no matter what I try. FIX?

You want more details? I spent over two hours trying to reverse this pain in the brain option! I went to audit log and it shows that I tried to reverse it, but the systems has internally kept the amount because I even deleted the charge that I did it on and did a journal entry and it is still remembering it. I cannot continue reconciling until this balances and it's only $11.21.

I can see you've already put a lot of effort into this, and I understand your feelings regarding the discrepancy you want to address, HV Bookkeeper.

Your journal entry was a good idea, but it's not connected to the original transaction that was reconciled. QuickBooks sees it as a separate entry. When you delete the charge, the deletion shows in the audit log, but it doesn't affect the reconciliation status.

To fix an accidentally reconciled transaction, we can manually un-reconcile it in the bank register to remind QuickBooks that this transaction is no longer part of the reconciled period. It allows you to change the amount or delete and re-enter the incorrect entry. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top-right corner, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the bank account you were reconciling and click View register
  3. Find the transaction that you accidentally hit Yes on.
  4. Click the R in the box until it appears blank.
  5. A warning will pop up. Hit Yes to confirm.
  6. Now that the transaction is unreconciled, click on the transaction and change the amount to the correct one.
  7. Let's go back to the reconciliation screen. Select the transaction with the correct amount.

After successfully unreconciling, please delete the journal entry you made to ensure a clean and accurate reconciliation before reconciling them again.

You can also consult an accountant for a guided process when doing the steps above.
