Why am I unable to link my bank account?

When I try to link my account it’s telling me there’s an account already linked to a bank. Is there a way around this?

Why am I unable to link my bank account?

Hello there, @gera174483. I can help you link your bank account to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before linking, you'll have to check how your financial institution sends your downloaded transactions. If they download to only one account, link only the parent account. However, if the data are imported to each account, link only to the sub-accounts.

On the other hand, this error message typically shows up if you're adding multiple credit cards for the same bank in QBO and if the second credit card has the same bank account number as the first one. But the login credentials are different. You can update the sign-in info instead of adding a new connection to eliminate the error.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and select Bank Transactions.
  2. Click the Edit icon next to the bank name.
  3. Select Edit sign-in info, and enter your updated bank website username or user ID and password.
  4. Select Save and Connect.
  5. QuickBooks Online will try to connect with your bank to verify your information.
  6. Once you see a confirmation message, click on I'm done, Let's go!

Once you've linked your account to QuickBooks, refer to these articles for future reference in organizing your bank transactions and accounts:
