Hello, we switch from QB Premiere to QB Enterprise a few days ago.

We are having issues how to assign Bin Location to our 750 items we maintain in our only warehouse.

Can someone please help with this!

Thanks,

Bin Locations to Items

Hello, Tomas! Congratulations on your upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise! Managing inventory can be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping everything organized. Rest assured, I'm here to help you simplify the process of assigning bin locations to your items. With the right setup, you'll maintain your warehouse efficiently and ensure your products are tracked accurately.

Before we move forward, I’d love to hear more about the specific challenges you faced while assigning bin locations to your items. Any details you can share will really help me understand your situation better and ensure that we provide you with the most effective solution tailored to your needs.

Start by turning on the Row, Shelf, or Bin preference so you can add a new bin location to an existing site or location. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Edit and select Preferences.
  2. Choose Items & Inventory.
  3. Under Company Preferences, click Advanced Inventory Settings.
  4. On the Multiple Inventory Locations preference, check the box beside Track bin Locations within Inventory Sites (row, shelf, or bin). QuickBooks will put all your items in a bin called "Unassigned". Later, you can transfer them to their correct bins using the Transfer Inventory form.
  5. Click OK twice. 80.PNG

After that, create a new bin location by performing the method below:

  1. Go to List and select Inventory Site List.
  2. From the Inventory Site drop-down, pick New.
  3. Enter the name of the location for your inventory items.
  4. Turn on the radio button for is a bin within site.
  5. Add a new bin or choose from the list (if you already have one).
  6. Hit OK81.PNG

Once you're done, transfer your inventory items to your preferred bin location. Here's how to complete the procedure:

  1. Go to Inventory and select Transfer Inventory.
  2. Fill in all the information needed such as the DateReference No.ClassTransfer From, and To.
  3. Choose all the inventory items you need to transfer and enter the appropriate transfer details.
  4. Pick Save & Close82.PNG

You can find more insight about the task above in this article: Multiple Inventory Sites.

When everything is all set, I recommend exploring the Inventory section from the Reports menu. This is a great way to generate insightful reports, like the Quantity on Hand by Site, Inventory Valuation Summary by Site, or Items by Bin Location. These will provide valuable inventory data to help you make informed decisions.

With these details in hand, you’re now well-equipped to monitor and manage your inventory in QBDT Enterprise. If there are any additional questions or you need further clarification about the process, please don’t hesitate to click the Reply button. I’m always here to help. Take care, Tomas, and I hope you have a fantastic day ahead!
