creating a new Quickbooks desktop file with old date and then taking the old data out of the current Quickbooks desktop file

Our Quickbooks file dates back to 2009. We want to retain the information from 2009 through 2017 and then remove it from our current QuickBooks file.

I have read about condense, however, we will need access to the 2009-2017 information also

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Good afternoon pennees,

Thank you for connecting with the QuickBooks Community! Just so you know, the condensed data utility helps streamline your company data file and improve its performance. However, you could open a new company file and keep the files from 2009-2017 as historical data. And from there, import the necessary information into the new one.

Please let me know if you need further information. I will be around to help! Take care.

@pennees

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

We use QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024,

I was hoping to just make a copy of the current QB file and rename it. don't want to go through the time expense of creating the world.

condensing doesn't guarantee the file will be smaller but does remove memorized reports and forms.

I am hoping for a different avenue

Thanks

You can condense a file and get a new condensed file. You can definitely still access your historical data in the old file. Removing all 8 years of data up to 2017 definitely affects the new condensed file size. Do you have any other concerns?
