To update your company file to the most recent desktop version of QuickBooks, we can download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to restore your 2008 portable backup data to a newer version. I'm happy to discuss the best possible option for you in detail.
You can use the following installer link to download and install the new QBDT version: QuickBooks Enterprise trial install file.
After the installation is complete, open and update a portable version of your company file. Here's how:
- Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
- Go to File, then select Open or Restore Company.
- Select Open a company file, then Next.
- If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy.
- Find your company file and then click Open.
- Please note that if you can't find your company file, open the Windows Start menu and then File Explorer. Search for your company file by name or the .qbw file extension. If you still can't find it, make sure it's not hidden.
- Sign in to your company file as the admin user.
- QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can choose to Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
- Press Update Now.
- When QuickBooks finishes, click Done.
