QuickBooks File Conversion Assistance Needed From Pro 2008 to recent

Subject: QuickBooks File Conversion Assistance Needed From Pro 2008 to recent

and I run a small business in Los Angeles, California, USA. I handle in-house accounting, including data entry and bank reconciliation, using QuickBooks Pro 2008. At the end of each year, I send the portable backup files (.QBM, approximately 17MB) to my accountant, who then converts them to the latest QuickBooks version and finalizes the data for our income tax return.

Unfortunately, my accountant is no longer able to continue working due to health issues. I would like to know if you can help by converting my QuickBooks Pro 2008 portable backup files to the most recent version.

Please let me know if this is something you can assist with.

Thank you,
Nas

QuickBooks File Conversion Assistance Needed From Pro 2008 to recent

We appreciate you for reaching out to the Community, NJZ.

To update your company file to the most recent desktop version of QuickBooks, we can download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to restore your 2008 portable backup data to a newer version. I'm happy to discuss the best possible option for you in detail.

You can use the following installer link to download and install the new QBDT version: QuickBooks Enterprise trial install file.

After the installation is complete, open and update a portable version of your company file. Here's how:

  1. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to File, then select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a company file, then Next.
  4. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy.
  5. Find your company file and then click Open.
  6. Please note that if you can't find your company file, open the Windows Start menu and then File Explorer. Search for your company file by name or the .qbw file extension. If you still can't find it, make sure it's not hidden.
  7. Sign in to your company file as the admin user.
  8. QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can choose to Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  9. Press Update Now.
  10. When QuickBooks finishes, click Done.

For detailed information on the process, I recommend reading this article: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Furthermore, you may find this article useful for customizing any report generated in QuickBooks Desktop: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have further questions about other data update-related concerns in QuickBooks Desktop, please feel free to reach out. I'll be here to help. Have a great day!

@njz

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2011, 2015, and 2019 to upgrade your file gradually. Another option, you can purchase a 3rd party service to upgrade it. You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance.
