Search by line description

I want to search by Line Description of a Sales receipt or a Journal, but can't find how to search it.

When I type in the search box, a lot of results show up but none of them is what I need

I'm here to provide some information about the search update in QuickBooks Online (QBO), AN34.

Currently, the option to search by line description using the New experience is unavailable in QBO. As a workaround, you have the option to switch to the Classic Advance Search to display all transactions with specific descriptions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Search icon beside the Help menu.
  2. Select the Advanced Search hyperlink below.
  3. Click Go to Classic Advanced Search hyperlink.

Once done,  you now have the option to search by line description to show all transactions with specific descriptions.

I've added this article in case you need to learn more about how to personalize your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to return to this thread if you need further assistance in searching your transactions in QBO. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

Thanks for coming back to us, AN34.

I can help locate the Classic Advanced Search in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You can click the Go to transactions search link to see the option. Then tap the Go to Classic Advanced Search link in the Search your transactions window. I've added a screenshot below for visual reference.

Additionally, you can check this link to find transactions quickly and easily with the search function: Search for transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, visit this guide about personalizing your data to the specific information you want to see: Customize reports.

Let me know if you have other questions about the search function and running transactions in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Take care.

I understand what you suggested and tried it, but I can only see "Go to all transactions or Send us feedback" in my QBO, no option for Classic advanced search, pls have a look at the my attached screenshot.

Thanks!

I appreciate you taking the time to continue providing screenshots as we work through this issue, AN34. It makes it so much easier for us to grasp exactly what's happening on your end.

Looking at the image you attached, it seems the entire Search bar is not displaying in your QuickBooks Online account. This is likely due to a technical issue like too much cache or another browser problem interfering with the page loading correctly.

When certain parts of QuickBooks Online fail to load correctly, it's typically due to a temporary issue that can be resolved by following these basic troubleshooting tips:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies - This removes any outdated files or data that could be causing display issues.
  • Try a different web browser - See if the problem persists in a different browser like Chrome, Firefox, etc. This helps isolate browser-specific problems.
  • Ensure your browser is updated to the latest version - Outdated browsers can sometimes cause display glitches.
  • Disable browser extensions/addons - These can sometimes interfere with page loading.
  • Try in incognito/private browsing mode - This eliminates any custom settings as a factor.

Alongside the troubleshooting suggestions I previously mentioned, I would like to share more articles that outline additional solutions for resolving similar issues:

Just in case the issue persists, you can reach out to the QuickBooks support team for further assistance. Here's an article on how to contact them: QuickBooks Online Support.

Please feel free to always reply to this thread if you have further questions, AN34. I always aim to provide as many resources and tools as possible to help you look for specific transactions. I'd be happy to continue helping in any way we can.

No matter what I try, I still can't see the Go to Classic Search. Please bring back the old Advanced Search, the new version is COMPLETELY USELESS.

Hello there, TheRealDHB.

This isn't how I want you to feel about QuickBooks Online's new Search interface. I can also see that you've already made several steps to reach your goal, but I've still got steps to ensure you can see the Go to Classic Advanced Search option on your end.

To start with, please note that to view the mentioned option, you need to first select the Go to transactions search link at the bottom. If you still can't see it, I recommend accessing your QBO account in a private browser. Then, locate the Go to Classic Advanced Search from there. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and incognito doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, you'll have to clear the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. If the steps above don't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

On the other hand, you can consider submitting feedback about having the ability to return to the old Advanced Search in QBO. The recommendations are sent to our engineer for consideration in future updates.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then, select Next to submit feedback.

In case you need different guidelines on how you can effectively manage your business using QBO, you can read this article:  Help guides for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns about managing the Search feature in QBO. I'm always here to help you further, TheRealDHB. Have a good one!
