Why is nothing being done about the mileage tracker that stopped working on October 5th, 2024?

I do traveling sales and have a lot of mileage that I use for deductions. I have used the mobile app for years and recently noticed that it stopped tracking on October 5th, 2024. When I called, they said it was a known issue and they are working on the issue and would keep me posted. I was told to manually track my mileage until then!

I can see that tracking mileage is essential, especially when traveling to keep everything organized. At the moment, we didn't receive a report on this yet Todd. I appreciate you contacting our support team. I double-checked this matter and found out the the ongoing investigation only refers to QBO users and for Android phone users. Since you're using QBSE, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get this fix.

Sometimes, devices may struggle to accurately track mileage in slow-moving traffic or when recording specific trips addresses. There are settings that you can adjust to enhance the accuracy of this information. If you're using an android, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Mileage settings.
  4. To improve accuracy in slow-moving traffic, turn on the Track slow speed trips setting.
  5. To improve accuracy recording addresses, turn on the Boost location accuracy setting.

On the other hand if you're using iOS, double-check if the app is tracking miles. Here's how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  2. Go to the Mileage menu.
  3. Select Auto-tracking.
  4. Select Check mileage settings.

If the issues persists, I highly suggest that you do not hesitate to contact our support team once again. Our team possesses the necessary skills and resources to determine the root cause and conduct a more detailed investigation into the matter. They would be able to pull up your account in a secure environment and provide you with updates ensuring that the matter is appropriately escalated to receive the attention it deserves.

In the meantime, to keep everything organized, I suggest manually tracking your mileage until the app is fully functional again.

Once everything is back up and running and you need to claim mileage for travel deductions, I’ve included a helpful article that shows you how to download your mileage into a CSV file: Export Mileage Info From QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about tracking your mileage. We're always right here to assist you and are committed to resolving any issue as quickly as possible. Have a nice day!
