1099 State Copy 1 for Employers to send to their state

QBO changed the 1099 processing and it has really caused a mess for their clients that have to send in the Employers "State Copy 1" to their state.

I was told that it is not possible to get anymore and to just go buy the forms and print each one. The headache this will cause my clients is unacceptable.

For my clients that can upload a pdf of the State Copy 1 to their state, will now have to print off each one and then scan to combine them so it can be uploaded as one file to their state.

My clients already paid for the online processing of the 1099's. It is shocking that this is where we are after all the price hikes. This is unbelievable!

How can we get the State Copy 1 for the states that require them?

1099 State Copy 1 for Employers to send to their state

Hi there, @feinbergks.

I'll share information about getting 1099 State Copy 1 in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Getting 1099 State Copy 1 depends on the state if an employer will be required. If you are in Alaska, Florida, Illinois, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, or Wyoming, you're not required to file Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC with your state.

However, if you're state required you to file 1099s, you can check out this article and click the link on your state to get 1099s State Copy 1 and file it: File your state 1099 forms.

You may want to learn more about the boxes on 1099 forms and how to prepare them. You can check out these resources for more guidance:

This link is an incorrect link and only deals with withholding.

Also, I know that MI has to file the State Copy 1 with the state. Why can't QBO process and give us the State Copy 1 like it used to? Now we have to go into each 1099 and somehow transfer the information manually and correctly on each 1099 State Copy? Some of my clients have 30+ 1099's.

Neither of your answers addressed my issues.

QBO hasn't ever filed our State Copy of the 1099's but what they did do is provide the printed copies for us to send to our states that require it. Now, the new system supposedly doesn't provide those anymore which puts my clients in a bind. They have all paid to efile via QBO and then found out they cannot get a copy of the State Copy 1 to send into their states. They would have been better off to just purchase the forms and print them off.

Also, they no longer provide them in one file and will have to go into each 1099 file and print them which will be so time consuming for those that have many contractors.

I agree, I have been sitting here trying to figure out how to print a summary form and the copy 1 of the 1099s I filed with the feds for an hour. I'm so tired of this change from desktop. It's really irritating that I can't just print something to mail to my state like I used to.

I understand the challenges this situation must pose for you, especially after a year of dealing with it, ndingwell. Allow me to join you here and provide some information on obtaining State Copy 1.

Whether you are required to obtain 1099 State Copy 1 depends on your state. To determine which states you can file through QuickBooks Online (QBO) and which states require direct filing with their agency, please check out this article:
File your state 1099 forms.

Additionally, QBO does not support state filing for states that require direct filing outside of Combined Federal/State Filing (CFSF), e-filing for states with state tax withholding, and when the state threshold is below the federal threshold.

However, you have the option to purchase a pre-printed 1099 kit that includes a state copy. Once you have the kit, you can manually enter the necessary information and file it to your state. You can purchase the kit from this website: https://intuitmarket.intuit.com/tax-forms/1099-forms?track=56139&src=QBO1099WIZARDW2.

You can also view all forms you have previously filed within QBO. They will be available to view or print approximately 35 days after the end of the quarter. For complete details, check out this article: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

Additionally, Explore QuickBooks Payroll to elevate your payroll processing capabilities. Its features can assist you with managing your 1099s and contractors effectively.

We're here to assist you with other payroll concerns, including managing 1099s, and contractors, or utilizing any other QuickBooks features. Just leave a comment below, and we will promptly assist you.

Whether it's actual AI, or people who can't actually understand English providing answers based on scripts and keywords, I suppose it amounts to the same thing.
