1099 State Copy 1 for Employers to send to their state

QBO changed the 1099 processing and it has really caused a mess for their clients that have to send in the Employers "State Copy 1" to their state.

I was told that it is not possible to get anymore and to just go buy the forms and print each one. The headache this will cause my clients is unacceptable.

For my clients that can upload a pdf of the State Copy 1 to their state, will now have to print off each one and then scan to combine them so it can be uploaded as one file to their state.

My clients already paid for the online processing of the 1099's. It is shocking that this is where we are after all the price hikes. This is unbelievable!

How can we get the State Copy 1 for the states that require them?

1099 State Copy 1 for Employers to send to their state

Hi there, @feinbergks.

I'll share information about getting 1099 State Copy 1 in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Getting 1099 State Copy 1 depends on the state if an employer will be required. If you are in Alaska, Florida, Illinois, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, or Wyoming, you're not required to file Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC with your state.

However, if you're state required you to file 1099s, you can check out this article and click the link on your state to get 1099s State Copy 1 and file it: File your state 1099 forms.

You may want to learn more about the boxes on 1099 forms and how to prepare them. You can check out these resources for more guidance:

This link is an incorrect link and only deals with withholding.

Also, I know that MI has to file the State Copy 1 with the state. Why can't QBO process and give us the State Copy 1 like it used to? Now we have to go into each 1099 and somehow transfer the information manually and correctly on each 1099 State Copy? Some of my clients have 30+ 1099's.

1099 State Copy 1 for Employers to send to their state

Neither of your answers addressed my issues.

QBO hasn't ever filed our State Copy of the 1099's but what they did do is provide the printed copies for us to send to our states that require it. Now, the new system supposedly doesn't provide those anymore which puts my clients in a bind. They have all paid to efile via QBO and then found out they cannot get a copy of the State Copy 1 to send into their states. They would have been better off to just purchase the forms and print them off.

Also, they no longer provide them in one file and will have to go into each 1099 file and print them which will be so time consuming for those that have many contractors.
