When printing Pay Stubs, QuickBooks sorts the Pay Stubs by date and then creation order.
In turn, the creation order is set during the create Paychecks workflow based on the order the Paychecks are first edited, where the name field for each employee will turn yellow as you make changes and create a pending paycheck.
Printing Pay Stubs has always worked this way. Printing Paychecks, on the other hand, appears to sort the Paychecks by date and then alpha by name.
This behavior has been this way since I can remember (at least 20 years) and can't be changed with a payroll update. So, I suspect that you usually create the pending Paychecks in alpha order, as listed in the Create Paychecks workflow, but something changed in your recent payroll run and they were created out of order.
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @Suite630. I'm here to share information about your printing concern.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the default option in sorting the paystubs to print them in alphabetical order is unavailable.
In case you're having printing issues that cause the paystubs to no longer print in alphabetical order, you can perform the steps in this article: Resolve printing issues. All printers can vary, so the troubleshooting steps in the article require you to have knowledge of your printer setup. You can contact your IT person or the printer manufacturer's tech support directly if you're unsure of how to use these tips.
Also, running payroll reports in QBDT is easy. This will help you get a summary of your employee details, company information, and business finances.
Don't hesitate to get back here if you have any other concerns in printing paystubs in QBDT. I'll be always around to help you. Have a good one.
