is there an audit log that shows me when a payroll item was created/changed and the user who made the change? the audit log under reports does not seem to capture this kind of change.

No, QB does not keep track of list record changes like items, payroll items, accounts, or names.

Good afternoon, @Blozada

Welcome back to the Community. I'll show you some information about the audit log and what it tracks.

To view the audit log, you must sign in as an admin. If you don't see it, ask your Master admin.

  1. Go to the Gear Icon and pick Audit Log
  2. Click Filter.
  3. To limit the results, use the fields in the Filter panel to select the correct UserDate, or Event filter.
  4. Choose Apply

You can also take a look at Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online for detailed information about the audit log.

Thanks for reaching out. Let me know if this helps by replying to this thread, have a great day!

I'm using QB Desktop  so your instructions are not working for me. Does QB track changes made to payroll items?

Welcome back to the thread, @Blozada.

I think the question might have been misunderstood. Online and Desktop do provide the Audit Log that can see when changes are made to Transactions, Invoices, Estimates, or User but not payroll information.

In Desktop or Online, you can't see anything that keeps track of list record changes like items, payroll items, accounts, or names like @BigRedConsulting stated.

I can leave feedback to our Product Development Team that could possibly have a feature like this added in the near future.

Should you have any additional questions or concerns, the Community will have you covered. Thanks for reaching out, Happy Friday!
