Breaking Owners payroll out from general payroll

I'm on QB Desktop Pro 2021 with Enhanced Payroll.  I'd like to break Owner's Salary/Payroll out from the "general" payroll bucket.  I was able to go into the Chart of Accounts and Create a "General Payroll" line plus a "Owner's Payroll" line both rolling up to Payroll Expense.  The next question is how to I map individual people's payroll to either the Owner or General payroll categories.

I don't want to mess with any tax witholdings - they all need to go exactly where they go today....just the Gross Payroll number I want broken down.

Breaking Owners payroll out from general payroll

Good day, @lpasekof.

We can create a separate item for the individual account in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Then, post to each account. However, we're unable to add both or multiple salary items on the paycheck. The amount will automatically divide by QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the List menu.
  2. Choose Payroll Item List.
  3. Click the Payroll Item drop-down arrow, and then choose New.
  4. Select Custom Setup, and then Next.
  5. Click Wage, and then  Next.
  6. Select Annual Salary, and then Next.
  7. Click the type of pay. Vacation Pay and Sick Pay are each specific options. All other types of pay should be entered as Regular Pay.
  8. Select Next.
  9. Enter a name for the salary item that easily identifies it, and then click Next.
  10. Select the account you've created used for tracking wages. Then click Finish.

I've added this link that you can check about payroll questions: Payroll 101.

Please get back to us if you have other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Take care.
