calculate gross

It's possible your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and payroll tax table aren't updated. This could be the reason why the Enter net/Calculate gross button isn't working and the Unlock Net Pay field is missing. 

To help fix this, let's first update QBDT to the latest release. This ensures your software is up to date. Here's how to set up automatic updates: 

1. Go to Help from the top menu. 
2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop. 
3. Go to the Update Now tab. 
4. Choose Get Updates to start the download.
5. Restart QuickBooks when the download is finished. 
6. If prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

The screenshot below shows you the third and fourth steps.

Second, let's download the latest payroll tax table. This ensures you have current tax rates and calculations within the program. Here's how: 

1. Go to Employees from the top menu. 
2. Select Get Payroll Updates.
3. Check the Download Entire Update box.
4. Click Update. 

See the screenshot below to show you the first two steps. 

Once done, the two buttons will now function as you go to the Review Paycheck window (refer to the screenshot below).
