can I please get some help to understand the contractor payroll setup

We'd love to help you get started with setting up contractor payroll, anna_tx.

You can easily set up your contractors for a 1099 and track their payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Before we dive in, it’s a good idea to understand the different types of 1099 forms and their purpose. Also, it’s best to ask them to fill out a W-9 form first, which you can download directly from the IRS website.

Whenever you're ready, follow these steps to set up your contractors in QBO:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to My apps, select Expenses & Bills, then Contractors.
  3. Click Add your first contractor or Add a contractor80.png
  4. Enter your contractor’s name and email address. Then, check the Email this contractor box if you want them to enter their own information. Leave it unchecked if you plan to enter their information yourself. Note: You can click waiting for info, then fill in a contractor’s information later.  This lets you move through the process without delay.
  5. Select Add contractor81.png

For more details, please see this article: Set up contractors for 1099s.

Also, if you want to elevate your payroll processing, I highly recommend exploring QuickBooks Payroll. With its robust time-tracking and faster direct deposit features, you can transform your business.
