Can I skip running payroll for one period?

The company has 1 employee.  This hourly employee worked no hours during the pay period.  What are the implications of simply not running payroll this period?  We'll double the 401k withholding next period so it remains on track for the year's goal.

Can I skip running payroll for one period?

You can skip payroll for a single employee by changing the pay period end date to its next end date.

 

Here's how:
 

  1. In your left navigation bar, go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Find the employee and click to their profile.
  3. Under Employment details, hit Edit.
  4. From your Pay schedule section, use the Pencil icon.
  5. Make your necessary changes. You can enable the Custom schedule to choose dates. You'll want to be aware the first payday must be within 20 days of your second payday.

 

In regard to any potential implications which may arise from not running payroll for a particular period, I'd recommend working with an accounting professional. They'll be able to properly identify any possible implications with you. If you're in need of one, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find a ProAdvisor.
