Can you edit the hourly rate for projects in the time card?

Hi and Welcome to the Community space, @Josie.

Allow me to share some information about your concern on how to edit the hourly rate for projects in the timecard in QuickBooks.

To begin, when you mention hourly rate for projects in the timecard are you referring to QuickBooks Payroll stand-alone? If so, let me walk you through on how:

QuickBooks Online Payroll

  1. Go to Payroll, then select Employees (Take me there).
  2. Select your employee.
  3. From Pay types, select Start or Edit.
  4. Select + Another hourly rate.
  5. You can change the Pay type name if you want. Then enter the Rate per hour.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 if you need more pay items.
  7. When finished, select Save.

When you create paychecks, these rates will appear in the table. All you need to do is enter the hours.

Furthermore, if you don’t use QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Online Payroll. Here's how to edit the hourly rate in QuickBooks Time:

  1. In QuickBooks Time, select Projects, then select +Add Project.
  2. Enter a Project Name.
  3. (Optional) Choose the customer the project is for. The project will appear in the customer list and be labeled with (Project) to differentiate it from any other code.
  4. (Optional) Add project start and end dates to have a timeline for your project.
  5. (Optional) Add a project description.
  6. (Optional) Add the project location using an address or GPS coordinates.
  7. Select Continue to add an estimate (see next section).

Edit a project

Note: For QuickBooks integrated accounts, edit the project in QuickBooks first, then import edits to QuickBooks Time.

  1. For non-QuickBooks integrated accounts, in QuickBooks Time, select Projects.
  2. Next to the project, select More options, then Edit.
  3. Make your changes, and select Save.

To learn how to enter your employee’s year-to-date paycheck info, and company totals also set up additional pay items in QuickBooks Online Payroll and QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. And how to handle pay types you don’t use anymore in QuickBooks:

I'll be here to provide more assistance with handling your hourly rate for projects in the timecard in QuickBooks Online. Have a pleasant day. Keep Safe!
