Hi,
So we have Quickbooks Enterprise 2022 and running my first certified payroll and have a few questions.
Some of our employees are on two or three prevailing wage jobs a week. How do I set up the prevailing wage and fringe for each job? Do I have a separate one for each employee and job?
I'm here to provide information on how you can set up prevailing wage and fringe for your employee, @
kramage9416.
If you're going to pay your employee with this amount, you need to set it up as an additional item. Before doing any steps, I'd recommend creating a backup copy of your file first so you'll have the original information you can restore in case of accidental data loss. Once done, you can now perform these steps:
Also, to ensure that you have the correct tax tracking type to have an accurate calculation of taxes and report for the tax returns, I'd suggest consulting an accountant for guidance.
Additionally, you can browse through this article to help you track the expenses for a job in QBDT: Tracking job costs in QuickBooks Desktop. This will allow you to determine how much money you spend and make for each job.
You may drop your additional questions in the comment below and I'll be happy to assist you further. Take care and stay safe.
That does not help me. Each prevailing job has a rate and a fringe so:
Joe Smith -
Town of Princetown - Water Main Break Laborer Rate is $34.80/hr plus Fringe of $25.74/hr
plus Operator Rate of $46.91/hr plus Fringe of $29.60/hr
I set these up as Earnings -
Prevailing - Laborer B = $34.80/hr
Prevailing - Fringe Laborer B = $25.74/hr (minus employees fringe he gets already)
But think there is a better way
That does not help me.
Let me give you an example:
Joe Smith works on the Town of Princetown - Water Main Break Job - its a prevailing wage job
Joe Smith was a Laborer on job - his pay will be $34.80/hr plus Fringe of $25.74/hr (minus fringe already given)
Plus he was Operator on same job for $46.91/hr plus Fringe of $29.60/hr (minus fringe already given by employer)
I need to fill in time sheet which I understand, plus have customer and job in system.
All these jobs have different rates and fringe.
Do you put say one Payroll Item for say Prevailing - Laborer Rate and just have to constantly change the hourly or have one for each job? That would be alot for us - we have over 20 prevailing jobs going on.
That also goes for Fringe Rate?
Hopefully someone understands what I am talking about
Hi @kramage9416,
I appreciate you for providing detailed information about your payroll question. Allow me to chime in and help you set up prevailing wages for workers in QuickBooks Desktop.
Yes, you're right about using earnings items for the paychecks. Since you need to link your earnings items to job classifications, I recommend having one for each job in QuickBooks.
The item names you create will appear on the Certified Payroll Report. I recommend separating these items to sort out and view details in more detailed data.
For the fringe benefits, it will depend if you need to gather detailed information for each paycheck. You can seek expert advice from an accountant to ensure the reporting is correct and error-free.
In case you need additional guidance about Fringe Benefits, check out this link: Create taxable fringe benefits payroll items.
For more information about the Certified Payroll Report, as well as the required criteria to ensure prevailing wages are recorded correctly, I recommend the following article: Certified Payroll.
