Changing a pay type so that the employee is paid out of a different ledger account

Hi there, rosemarytreasurer.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing steps to ensure you can change a pay type in QuickBooks Online.

When updating employees' records for their payroll, you can always visit their information so you can begin modifying it. With this, I suggest going to the Employee's details and Pay types section to change a specific pay type.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu at the left panel and select Employees.
  2. Choose a particular employee.
  3. From Pay types, select Start or Edit.
  4. Select the pay types you want to add or edit.
  5. Enter the rates for each pay type.
  6. You can rename some of the pay types. Then, click Edit ✎ next to the pay type.
  7. Click Save.

You can open this article to see further details: Add or change pay types.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see different details on how you can run several payroll reports in QBO that you can use to view useful information about your employees: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Stay in touch if you have other QBO questions, particularly payroll-related concerns. I'll be right here to answer them for you, rosemarytreasurer. Enjoy the rest of the day!
