Changing Primary Work Location

My company has a holding company in WY which pays all payroll. When the payroll account in QBO was set up the WY address was used as the primary work location as it is the company's legal address. The issue is that there are no employees in WY and we do not need to pay WY U/I tax. The employees are in CO and we need to be paying U/I here. I have tried several solutions from the support section and group but nothing has worked and many answers seem to be a little outdated. Hoping for some assistance here since I have not found a way to contact payroll support and this issue is preventing us from filing our Federal U/I until resolved. Thank you for any insight.

Changing Primary Work Location

Welcome to the Community, RMCICO.

To set up a new work location you'll initially want to confirm which state taxes apply and get the necessary information. Next, you can make changes to an employee's work location.

Here's how:

  1. In your left navigation bar, go to Payroll, Employees.
  2. Access an employee's profile.
  3. From the Employment details section, click Start or Edit.
  4. Use your Work location drop-down list and choose an existing address or hit + Add work location.
  5. If you chose to add a new address, enter the physical address where your employee works and pick a correct address from the list. Be sure not to use a P.O. Box. A physical address helps Intuit determine your correct taxes.
  6. Select Save.

Next, you can set up new taxes if necessary.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with payroll which may come in handy moving forward: Update your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a great Monday!
